Summary

The Administrative Assistant Intern will be responsible for efficient maintenance of the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon office space, database management, and other clerical work. This position will give the intern hands-on experience with the daily business of a small non-profit organization.

Primary Responsibilities

· Assist with database maintenance, make address corrections, and work with the NPCO team to improve coding system.

· Organize and maintain the office and the storerooms in an efficient and functional manner.

· Assist with ordering office supplies

· Answer phones and direct calls appropriately

· Clerical

· Assist Office Manager as needed

  • Strong computer skills

Campus Organizer: Lane Community College

Campus Organizer: Lane Community College

Available: 2009-2010 School Year

Reports to: Volunteer and Field Coordinator

Hours: The Organizer is asked to dedicate an average of 5 hours a week to the position and to document daily activities

Compensation: The Organizer will receive an expense stipend of $200 a month to cover such expenses as transportation, copying, food etc. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation will work with your school to ensure academic credit where applicable.

Summary

NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon is looking for a responsible, dedicated, resolutely pro-choice student to fill the position of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Campus Organizer. Campus Organizers are essential in educating their fellow students about the importance of reproductive rights issues. Internships with NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation are an excellent way to build your resume while gaining valuable experience with a non-profit advocacy organization

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with Field Organizer to develop and implement a seven-month grassroots organizing plan and establish goals relating to that plan that will include: measurable outcomes, appropriate data tracking, volunteer recruitment and retention, trainings for activists and volunteer leadership development.
  • Mobilize students and plan for and implement campus-based events including;
    • January 2010 Special election
    • Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision (January);
    • National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers (March)
    • House Parties/Choice Celebrations (at least one per term)
  • Conduct educational outreach activities about relevant choice issues on campus including, but not limited to, tabling events, job/volunteer fairs, campus rallies, etc.;
  • Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies for NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon’s Choice Action Network (CAN);
  • Work with students, faculty, staff, and appropriate student and community groups to generate interest in choice issues and to establish a NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon presence on campus through the creation of a Campus Choice Action Team; 
  • Report data collected from organizing work on campus to the Field Director through regularly scheduled phone calls, as well as through email and fax;
  • Find a replacement Organizer at the end of the internship;
  • Perform other duties as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 months effective grassroots organizing experience or campus activism experience;
  • Knowledge of and strong commitment to pro-choice and reproductive rights issues and NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon’s mission and goals;
  • Knowledge and understanding of campus life, active student organizations, and university policies regarding campus organizing or activism;
  • Excellent academic record and some flexibility in work/school schedule;
  • Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to produce concrete results with off-site supervision;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Ability to provide own local transportation is a plus.

Development Intern

 

Development Intern

Reports to: Development Director

Available: Fall 2009

Hours: Minimum of 10 hours per week, flexible schedule M-F 9am – 5pm.

Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon will help secure academic credit if applicable.

Summary

Intern position will directly assist Development Associates with all development related activities from donor research and communications to fundraiser planning and implementation.

 
Primary Responsibilities:

· Database management

· Letter writing and editing (mail solicitations, correspondence, donor outreach, fundraising emails)

· Assist with design of all fundraising event materials

· Respond to and track people who RSVP for fundraising events

· Assist Development staff as necessary with other tasks
 

Qualifications:

      - Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose

      - Computer skills including Photoshop as well as Word and Excel requested

      - Willingness to and comfort calling strangers and being persistent

      - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and a great sense of humor

Media and Communications Intern

Reports to: Deputy Director

Hours: 8-10 hours per week, flexible schedule M-F

Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary:

Maintaining communication with the media, lawmakers, and the public at large are all equally important components of our strategy to protect choice. The Media and Communications Intern will assist with the implementation of the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon’s communications strategy while gaining valuable experience in media relations, online strategies, new technologies, and materials development.

  • Updating NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon website and Assisting with Email communications.
  • Outreach to blogs and press about NARAL events, releases, etc.
  • General support to press operations including organizing press clippings (or electronic links) for distribution both internally and externally.
  • Drafting content for NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon publications, including biannual newsletter and insider updates.
  • Administrative duties.
  • Assisting with Marketing projects.

Qualifications:

  • Strong personal commitment to NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon’s mission.
  • Exceptional writing, research and computer skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Positive work ethic and willingness to work with staff and volunteers.
  • Communications or related academic experience a plus.

Summary:
The Organizing & Outreach Coordinator works closely with the Field Organizer to plan and implement the field operations of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon. Chose your own project emphasis! This includes research and support in event planning, community outreach, volunteer training, and activist mobilization in targeted areas.

Youth Programs Coordinator Intern

 

Term: Position opens August 2009

 

Goal: to develop a teen activist program that will support the goals and mission of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon, create opportunities for teen involvement, and develop skills for effective and sustained pro-choice activism.

 

Specific Duties:

  • Create and follow-through with effective teen activist program outreach and recruitment
  • Hold two hour weekly meetings at the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Office with a clear and focused agenda
  • The meetings will be two parts:

              -education & leadership development and;

              -activism & planning a project

 

Hourly Commitment: 12-20 hours/week

 

We are happy to work out details for college community service credits if applicable!
