Summary

NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon is committed to engaging youth as an active part of the Pro-Choice movement. We strive to do this by teaching youth issues related to Reproductive Freedom, and then offering opportunities for pro-choice activism. We have three programs specifically designed to engage youth:

1. The Teen Choice Action Team

2. Service Learning collaborations with local high schools, community colleges and universities.

Primary Responsibilities

Administrative Assistant Internship

Summary

The Administrative Assistant Intern will be responsible for efficient maintenance of the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon office space, database management, and other clerical work. This position will give the intern hands-on experience with the daily business of a small non-profit organization.

Primary Responsibilities

· Assist with database maintenance, make address corrections, and work with the NPCO team to improve coding system.

· Organize and maintain the office and the storerooms in an efficient and functional manner.

· Assist with ordering office supplies

· Answer phones and direct calls appropriately

· Clerical

· Assist Office Manager as needed

Auction Intern

Auction Intern

Available: Winter 2007 and Spring 2008; at least until April 18th

Reports to: Development Associate

Hours: Minimum of 10 hours per week, flexible schedule M-F 9am – 5pm.

Summary:
Intern position will directly assist the Development Associates with all Auction related activities from design of invitation and evening’s catalog to tracking of items, donors, and RSVPs.
 

Primary Responsibilities:

· Track donations, maintain up to date records in Auction Database

· Assist with the procurement of auction items, contact and follow up with potential donors and help to pick-up items

· Work at setup and event. Must be available all day on the day of the auction on: Friday, April 11th

· Assist with design of all publicity materials

· Respond to and track people who RSVP for event

· Assist Development staff as necessary with other tasks
 

Qualifications:

  • Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose
  • Strong computer skills including Photoshop as well as Word and Excel requested
  • Experience with events (auction, theatrical, promotional, etc) preferred
  • Willingness to and comfort calling strangers and being persistent

Summary

Intern position will directly assist Development Associates with all development related activities from donor research and communications to fundraiser planning and implementation.

 
Primary Responsibilities:

· Database management

· Letter writing and editing (mail solicitations, correspondence, donor outreach, fundraising emails)

· Assist with design of all fundraising event materials

· Respond to and track people who RSVP for fundraising events

· Assist Development staff as necessary with other tasks
 

Qualifications:

Legislative Intern

Hours: 9 - 15 hours per week, flexible schedule M-F. Must be available for occasional evenings and weekends.

Summary:
Assist NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon with electoral organizing of members and volunteers. The Legislative Support intern will work closely with the Political and Field Director to communicate with elected officials and promote pro-choice policy.

Media and Communications Intern

Summary:
The Media & Communications Intern will assist with the implementation of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon’s communications strategy while gaining valuable experience in media relations, online strategies, new technologies, and materials development.

    Summary:
    The Organizing & Outreach Coordinator works closely with the Field Organizer to plan and implement the field operations of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon. Chose your own project emphasis! This includes research and support in event planning, community outreach, volunteer training, and activist mobilization in targeted areas.

    PSU Choice Action Team Campus Organizer: 2007 - 2008 School Year

    PSU Students for Choice Campus Organizer

    Available: 2007-08 School Year

    Reports to: Field Organizer

    Hours: 7-10 hours per week

    Compensation: $150/month stipend

    NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon is the political arm of the pro-choice movement in our state. Our campus interns are responsible for recruiting students to join our Choice Action Email Network through tabling events and organizing a Campus Choice Action Team (C-CAT) group on campus. Campus interns play a key role in educating fellow students about the importance of reproductive rights and mobilizing them to take action on behalf of choice.
     

    Intern responsibilities: Establishing and maintaining an active C-CAT group on campus, recruiting students as volunteers through tabling events on campus, advertising volunteer opportunities on campus through flyering, emails, and announcements to classes, coordinating on-campus events with NARAL staff members in the Portland office, working in coalition with other feminist and progressive campus groups and representing Campus Choice Action Team at student government or other meetings as needed.
     

    Intern qualifications: Must be outgoing, comfortable recruiting other students to volunteer and follow up with phone calls, previous on-campus organizing experience a plus and have a strong commitment to a woman’s fundamental right to choose.

    Teen Choice Action Team High School Service Learning Project

    T-CAT High School Service Learning Project

    Available: 2007-08 School Year

    Reports to: Field Organizer 

    Hours: 2-3 hours per week

    Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon will help secure Service Learning credit if applicable.

     

    NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon's Teen Choice Action Team High School Internship program is committed to engaging teens as an active part of the Pro-Choice movement.  We strive to do this by teaching teens issues related to Reproductive Freedom, and then offering them opportunities for pro-choice activism.    

     

    Intern responsibilities:

    -The Teen Choice Action Team Interns will attend weekly workshops at NARAL where they will learn the basic principles of the Pro-Choice movement and the skills of community organizing.

     

    -The students will then be able to apply their learning to practical activities through service in the NARAL Office, at NARAL events, and in their own communities.  Service opportunities will be offered monthly with the expectation that students will engage in at least 6 service activities during the year. 

     

    -In addition, students will be required to recruit peers to attend monthly workshops or to participate in service opportunities.

     

    -Students will be provided with and expected to read news articles relating to the current political landscape and choice issues.
