Every other Wednesday night is Activist Night at the NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon downtown office. Activities will vary by week but the evening will include food, fun, and a special project that will help to defend the right to choose! Data Entry, Data Entry, and MORE Data Entry! Our petition season is on-going. This means we have a HUGE need for on-going data entry help all year. The best things about volunteering to help us with data entry is that the times you can come in are very flexible AND you can come in for as much or as little time as you’d like. -Monday through Thursday anytime between 9:00am and 5:00pm -Wednesdays we are open until 9pm! -Fridays anytime between 9:00am and 3:00pm Mailings Make the Difference! We need a little help from our friends. We have several pieces of mail that we send out each week and your help will make all the difference. If you have a Wednesday evening free, come on in! We are labeling, stamping, stuffing, and making a difference in our community! Auction Office Volunteers Believe it or not, it is already time to begin preparing for our annual spring Auction, our grandest fundraiser of the year. We are looking for a few dedicated volunteers to commit to one 2-3 hour shift in the office any day Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:30 AM and 5:00pm. Auction Office Volunteers will help with mailings, phoning and tracking procurement. Outreach Activists: Petitioning/Tabling at Events Are you angry about the Supreme Court decision? DO Something About it! We are gathering signatures of support for the Freedom of Choice Act and our goal is to reach 10,000 signatures by the end of the year. This is a great opportunity to engage your fellow Oregonians and educate them on key choice issues. Just let us know what timing works best for you! Are you paying too much for Birth Control? The Birth Control Pricing Crisis has hit campuses in Oregon and we are hitting the streets. “As an unintended consequence of the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) passed in January, drug companies can no longer sell birth control at discounted prices to college and university health centers and other safety net providers. Oral contraceptives, which may have cost ten dollars per month prior to the passage of the DRA, now can cost up to fifty dollars per month.”* We are doing are part to help the Oregon Students and we would love to have you join our efforts, contact us today to pick up your Birth Control Pricing Crisis petitions! Legislative Action Volunteers
Help NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon gear up for the election. Participate in grassroots lobbying at the state legislature. Depending on the year Legislative Action Volunteers will be vital in helping to pass pro-choice bills, defeat anti-choice bills and elect Pro-Choice Candidates. Help keep Oregon a pro-choice state. Did you know that a pharmacist in Oregon cannot refuse to dispense EBC to you without giving another option for dispensation? Throughout the year we need volunteers to write letters to the editor about important issues that are happening with choice. Letters to the editor are easy and fun to write. We provide you with all the material you need to write a letter and information on where to send it. The best part is that you can see your name in the paper when it is published! Host a House Party for Choice! Throughout the year, pro-choice individuals can invite guests to their homes to participate in a personal discussion about Choice with NPCO staff and special speakers like state legislators and county commissioners. Guests can learn about reproductive rights issues in a comfortable and social setting. They can also become NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon members on the spot! Neighborhood Organizing Protect and Elect in 2008! Pull together a group of people in your area and we will help you foster a “Neighborhood” Action team. This is a vital way to keep people informed, engaged and active as we prepare for the 2008 election. Be informed as NPCO endorses candidates and targets races. Who’s coming to dinner this election season? I believe it is your Top Priority Pro-Choice Candidate! Your team will be able to host a fun party with all your favorite Pro-choice friends. Committed Activists: Internships We have several internships that we still need to fill, including our EBC, Activist Recruitment, and Auction Interns. Start a Choice Action Team
Get involved with a local Choice Action Team (CAT) or start one in your community and become a leader on the issue of choice. As a Choice Action Team member, you will assist in the creation and implementation of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon’s strategic plans and be in the forefront of creating a better community for your neighbors. Show your support for a woman's right to choose by becoming a member of NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon. As a member you will receive our newsletter as well as information about what is happening with choice in your area.
