New Vaginal Gel to Cut AIDS risk in Half
A new gel containing AIDS’ drug Viread had been shown to cut the risk of HIV infection from unprotected sex by as much as 54 percent when the gel is applied to the vagina before and after sex. Considering the little power women have in many countries when it comes to decisions regarding contraception, this is welcome news in the fight against HIV infections. Aside from using female condoms, which aren’t that available or practical in many cultures, this gel will allow women in less developed nations to take more control over their sexual health.
