House to vote on abortion training restriction
House members are expected to vote today on a provision that would prohibit federal funds from being spent on medical resident training used to train residents on how to perform abortion procedures. The provision was presented by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) who claims that the amendment “ensures that the grants being provided to teaching health centers are not being used to perform elective abortion, makes it crystal clear that taxpayer money is not being used to train healthcare providers to perform abortion procedures.” Democrats counter that providing physicians with inadequate or incomplete medical training is harmful to women’s healthcare, as "abortion practices" are used in cases of incomplete miscarriage and abortion in Republican-approved cases of rape, incest, or when the health of the mother is at risk. If passed, the amendment would limit women’s availability to legal abortion services for years to come. Source: The Hill Read more here.
