2004 ELECTION GAINS AND LOSSES
NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon members also celebrated unprecedented pro-choice gains in the State Senate resulting in a majority of seats held by pro-choice senators and the gain of additional pro-choice seats in the State House of Representatives.
“On November 2, our nation suffered a major set-back for women’s rights to reproductive freedom and choice,” said Caroline Fitchett, Executive Director. “In his second term, George W. Bush is likely to do far-reaching damage to the rights to privacy and choice that will leave a legacy for generations to come. “Amid this national defeat, we also celebrate significant gains for reproductive choice here in Oregon. With the addition of at least three pro-choice representatives, including Larry Galizio (D-Tigard HD 35), Chuck Riley (D-Forest Grove HD 29), Arnie Roblan (D-Coos Bay HD 09)
NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon made a significant difference in bringing the State Senate back into the hands of a pro-choice majority with the addition of two strong pro-choice advocate, Laurie Monnes Anderson (D- Gresham SD 25), Alan Bates (D-Medford SD 3) and the more moderate candidate on reproductive choice won in SD 9, Joanne Verger (D-Coos Bay).
