Senator Brown is a strong pro-choice candidate who has been a leader in the choice movement for more than twenty years. "I am honored to receive the endorsement of NARAL Pro- Choice Oregon PAC in my run to become Oregon's next Secretary of State,” Brown said. “For over twenty years, I have worked closely with the pro-choice community and have been a leader in preserving and protecting our reproductive freedoms, fighting for access to birth control and health care for Oregon woman and their families." NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon Executive Director Michele Stranger Hunter cited Brown’s long history of leadership on this issue. “Senator Brown has been involved in the choice movement for two decades. Her hard work on this issue dates back to her experiences in law school as an escort at the Portland Feminist Health Center. Since then she has continued to be a champion for reproductive rights as a lobbyist and a legislator, even volunteering her legal services to fight Ballot Measures 8 and 10 in the court system. We look forward to working with Kate as the next Secretary of State for Oregon.” In 1993, Senator Brown introduced Contraceptive Equity legislation for the first time in Oregon. Since then she has worked alongside NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon to pass this legislation; efforts that paid off in the 2007 session with the passage of HB 2700: The Access to Birth Control Act. Senator Brown has also been instrumental in drafting and supporting numerous other pieces of legislation to protect choice in Oregon. NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC is the driving force behind electing pro-choice candidates throughout Oregon and its proven ability to mobilize pro-choice voters provides a critical edge to pro-choice candidates in Oregon. ###
