NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC Endorses John Kitzhaber for Governor

Modified: 08/03/2010

“NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC is proud to endorse John Kitzhaber for
governor of Oregon.  John truly understands that increasing women’s
access to the full range of reproductive health services including
family planning, birth control, and prenatal care, is vital to
ensuring the health of women and our communities.  The people of
Oregon are deeply fortunate to have such a qualified candidate to vote
for in these challenging times. His experience as a doctor,
legislator, governor, health care reformer, and pro-choice advocate
make him uniquely qualified to receive NARAL’s endorsement.  John’s
healthcare and legislative know-how will be essential to improving the
quality and affordability of Oregon’s health care system while making
sure that women’s privacy is protected and their healthcare needs are
met.” - Michele Stranger Hunter Executive Director NARAL Pro-Choice
Oregon

NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon PAC is proud to endorse John Kitzhaber for
governor on behalf of its 10,000 members and supporters. John is a
longtime advocate of a woman’s right to choose and as governor will be
a strong advocate for choice and the improvement of women’s
healthcare. He truly knows the importance of protecting a woman’s
freedom to make private healthcare decisions in consultation with her
family, faith, and physician.

“NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon, their members and their volunteers can trust
that I will always be a pro-choice advocate.” - John Kitzhaber

As a doctor, health care reformer and author of the Oregon Health
Plan, John Kitzhaber understands that women are disproportionately
impacted by any disparities in the health care system.  He knows that
an equitable system must actively work to provide comprehensive health
care to women, including improving the cost and accessibility of the
full range of reproductive health services such as family planning,
birth control and prenatal care.

“It is time to recognize that comprehensive women’s healthcare is
essential to protecting and promoting the health of women, the health
of children and the health of our society." - John Kitzhaber

John Kitzhaber has repeatedly proven his commitment to women’s health
as well as his ability to achieve real progress.  As a state senator
he not only authored the Oregon Health Plan but worked across the
aisle to get it passed into law.  Since 1994 the Oregon Health Plan
has helped over 2 million Oregonians afford quality healthcare.  NARAL
looks forward to working with John Kitzhaber as governor to further
improve Oregon’s healthcare system by lowering cost, increasing
quality and expanding access.

“I also look to NARAL as a partner in my work to reform our health
care system. Together, we can find cost-effective solutions that will
improve our system and the health of individuals, including ways to
increase access to and the quality of reproductive health care and
education.” - John Kitzhaber

As a leading pro-choice advocacy organization in Oregon, NARAL
Pro-Choice Oregon has been focused on educating and engaging Oregon
voters to participate in state and federal elections since 1977.
NARAL’s endorsements are based upon an initial comprehensive
questionnaire about a candidate’s experience, understanding of
“choice” and their policy position on “choice,” followed by a personal
interview.  John Kitzhaber’s responses were exceptional in both stages
of the endorsement process. Chris Dudley did not answer the
questionnaire about his experience, understanding of “choice,” or his
policy positions on “choice” and therefore did not qualify for a
personal interview.
