To our community,
In January 2023, the boards of Pro-Choice Oregon and Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation made the unanimous decision to dissolve Pro-Choice Oregon.
There is no one reason for this difficult decision. It has been a challenging year for our organization that led to many conversations with community members, and throughout this process it became clear that it’s time for Pro-Choice Oregon to close operations in order to make space for new leaders, new voices, and new tactics in the fight for reproductive justice.
In June of 2021 NARAL Pro-Choice America voted to fully nationalize the organization, by eliminating all 11 independent state affiliate organizations, including Pro-Choice Oregon. Following this major shift, we entered into a thoughtful process of planning and evaluation, including conversations with a dedicated community taskforce, consultants and our internal leadership. Throughout this process, it became clear that it’s time for Pro-Choice Oregon to end in order to make space for something new.
We are confident that this dissolution will clear the path for new leaders as we all navigate the post-Roe landscape and what that means for Oregon.
Because of our work in coalition with great partners, Oregon is a national model for abortion rights. In the past five years alone, we have helped secure the following wins for our movement:
-
Paid Family Medical Leave (2019)
-
Equal Access to Care Act (2021)
We are very proud of what Pro-Choice Oregon has accomplished over nearly 50 years, and we know the work will continue without us. We want to thank you for your support and commitment to reproductive rights, and look forward to seeing what's next for our work in Oregon.
With care and gratitude,
The Pro-Choice Oregon Board & Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation Board
