JULIA GOODMAN, PHD, MPH
Foundation Board Member | Pro-Choice Oregon Foundation
Julia Goodman, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Oregon Health & Science University and Portland State University School of Public Health. Julia studies how effective implementation of work-related policies can advance health equity for working parents. Her research focuses on understanding gaps between potential and realized access to paid family and medical leave (PFML) and other family-supportive workplace policies, and developing strategies to increase realized access to these policies. Her current research projects include: a) evaluating the impact of a recent paid parental leave policy on low-wage workers in the San Francisco Bay Area; b) examining access to paid leave from the perspectives of service and retail workers and their employers; and c) assessing the potential for a health system-based intervention to increase awareness of PFML and other family-supportive workplace policies.
Julia has been on the NPCOF Board of Directors since May 2017 and has served as President since October 2019. In her free time, she can be found biking around Portland and exploring the Oregon coast with her partner and her kids, Owen and Ada.
